Welcome to the Zanesville Museum of Art's Online Collection Database!
Beginning in fall 2020, the ZMA began a large-scale digitization project of its encyclopedic collection of 8,000+ works of art that span thousands of years and represent many cultures. A phased roll out of the online collection database began October 2021 and will continue through June 2022. The ZMA encourages guests to experience the historical, social, and cultural value of art and to explore the museum's strong collection of Ohio art pottery; studio pottery; early Ohio glass; European and American paintings, decorative arts, and works on paper; and works by contemporary Ohio artists. Smaller collections include African sculpture, Asian ceramics and decorative arts, Persian ceramics and metalworks, Mexican folk art, and the Madame Alexander dolls.
Tips for Searching
Searches are not case sensitive.
Keyword Search
The Keyword Search button allows you to perform a general search across multiple fields for any catalog records online.
The Advanced Search button can help you be more specific with your search. You can search for a word or phrase within a particular search category or use multiple categories to further narrow your search results.
Note that within each category of the advanced search, all of the keyword search options defined above are available, including wildcards, phrases, and logical and/or searches.
Browse
The Browse button is a great way to browse the collection. Each Browse page displays a random assortment of images from the museum's online records. If something piques your interest, click the thumbnail image to view a larger version of the image and to view the record.
Permanent Collection Catalog Searches
The catalog buttons can also help narrow down your search, by only searching within a selected catalog. If you only want to search for artwork, click the Permanent Collection button and type in your keyword(s) or phrase. You can also browse records within that catalog without performing a search. Phrase searching, wildcards (*) as well as AND/OR statements are available when performing catalog searches.
The Keyword Search button allows you to perform a general search across multiple fields for any catalog records online.
- Keyword searches use OR as the default connector between words.
For example, a search for Zanesville Stoneware will return all records associated with both Zanesville or Stoneware
- If you'd prefer to find records that include both keywords in each record, type AND between the two words.
For example, a search for Zanesville AND Stoneware will return only those records associated with both terms.
- If you'd prefer to search for a specific phrase, be sure to put the phrase within quotes.
For example, "Zanesville Stoneware Company" will return only those records with that phrase, which in this case is a pottery company.
- Use an asterisk (*) in your search as a wildcard.
For example, a search for histor* will return records containing history, histories, historical, etc.
The Advanced Search button can help you be more specific with your search. You can search for a word or phrase within a particular search category or use multiple categories to further narrow your search results.
For example, if you search in the people category using the search term White, only those records associated with a member of the White family appear. As opposed to searching for White in a Keyword Search, which would return records that include black and white photographs, the color white and so on.
