Description |
Verlys of America (1935-1951) created art glass in Newark, Ohio from 1935 to 1951. The Societe Holophane Francais was established near Rouen, France in 1920 as a subsidiary of the Holophane Company in the United States to make vehicle headlights. They expanded into making art glass and referred to it as Verlys. They produced high quality blown and molded glass with designs featuring plants, flowers, birds, fish, and geometric patterns. They established Verlys of America in Newark, Ohio in 1935. Many of the products produced there used molds supplied by Verlys France. Unlike the French Verlys that featured a molded manufacturer's mark, the Verlys of America pieces were hand signed with an engraving pen. |
