Description |
An example of Rookwood Pottery Company's Mahogany line, this delicate pitcher, shape number 433, was decorated by Harriet Elizabeth Wilcox (1869-1943) in 1888, and features hand-painted Chrysanthemums applied over an airbrushed background. Mahogany is a variation of Rookwood's dark Standard Glaze applied to a red clay body. An incised "D" on the vessel's underside instructed the glaze staff to use the "dark" yellow version of the Standard Glaze while a die-impressed "R" indicates a red clay body was used. |
