Description |
The Imperial Porcelain Corporation (1945-1960) produced ceramics in Zanesville, Ohio. Although only in business for about 15 years, the company produced a wide range of functional and decorative items including two series of hand-painted figurines based on popular 1930s and 1940s American cartoon characters. This piece is inspired by the "Blue Ridge Mountain Boys" characters created by Paul Webb for popular magazines "Esquire" and "The New Yorker." The figurines created by Imperial Porcelain are commonly referred to as the Paul Webb Mountain Boys series. This piece was donated to the Zanesville Museum of Art by the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Fred Phillips who were investors in the company. |
