This piece has a die-impressed half circle manufacturer's mark on the underside that reads Dickensware / Weller. This piece also has an impressed "502" and a die-impressed illegible number on the underside. |
Description |
An example from Weller Pottery Company's Dickens Ware II line introduced in 1900, this semi-gloss stein features an intricately hand-incised scene from "David Copperfield" by Charles Dickens (1812-1870). The line was designed by Charles Babcock Upjohn (1866-1953) and features a variety of characters, many of whom are drawn from stories by the famous author. This piece features characters Mr. Micawber and Copperfield and is incised "Mr. Micawber impressing the names of the streets upon me that I might find my way back early in the morning- David Copperfield" on the back setting the scene from the novel. |
