Title |
Count Fugger |
Date |
Circa 1610 |
Artist |
Attributed to Paulus Moreelse (1571-1638) |
Description |
Moreelse's sumptuous and detailed portrait of Count Fugger celebrates the luxuriousness of the regal gentleman's attire. Look closely at the exquisite gold details in the Count's black velvet Venetian jacket or at the Flanders lace ruff and cuffs, which dramatically contrast with the dark background. The artist's delicate brushstrokes used to capture the intricate patterns in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century fashion became a prized feature in many of his works. |
