Description |
An example from Weller Pottery Company's Dickens Ware II line introduced in 1900, this unusual matte pillow vase features an intricately incised image of a duck and fish. Animals were a common motif for this line designed by Charles Babcock Upjohn (1866-1953) along with a variety of characters, many of whom are drawn from stories by Charles Dickens (1812-1870). This piece also features two partial signatures of the designer Charles Babcock Upjohn and the decorator Gordon Mull who often worked together, Mull incising and Upjohn decorating. |
