Description |
The Brush-McCoy Pottery Company (1911-1925) was founded in 1911 when J.W. McCoy (1848-1914) and George S. Brush (1870-1934) joined forces. The company had facilities in both Zanesville and Roseville, Ohio. By 1914, the company had become one of the largest producers in the country of pottery. Sadly, a fire struck the Zanesville facility in 1918, and most of the manufacturing moved to the Roseville facility. During the 1920s, Brush McCoy added new equipment to the Roseville plant, including a 30-foot kiln. This allowed the company to produce significant art pottery lines such as Jetwood, Jewel, and more. In 1925, the name of the company was changed to Brush Pottery, as the McCoy family had sold their share of the company. Clare and Lucile Barnett, the daughter of George Brush, personally donated this piece and many others to the Zanesville Museum of Art's permanent collection. This bud vase is shape number 064 and is from the Onyx line. |
