Description |
Zanesville native Karl Kappes (1861-1943), like many German-Americans from this generation, studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati before enrolling in 1883 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, in Munich, Germany. Kappes' paintings from this period, with their dark color palette, naturalistic depictions, and intense lighting are typical of what is referred to as the "Munich School". |
