Description |
This transferware plate is attributed to the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, Vienna (1718-1864), circa 1820. The manufacturer was purchased by Austrian empress Maria Theresa in 1744 from Claude du Paquier. It is believed to be the second oldest porcelain factory in Europe, behind only the Meissen factory in Germany. Interestingly, it has been suggested that former Meissen employees brought the factory's secret recipe for hard-paste porcelain with them to the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory. |
