Description |
The Salem China Company (1898-1967), located in Salem, Ohio, northwest of East Liverpool, was founded by Patrick and John McNicol, Daniel Cronin, and William Smith in 1898. In 1918, the pottery was purchased by F. A. Sebring. By 1930, the pottery was at the peak of production, firing 25,000 pieces per day and employing over 500 people. Designer Viktor Schreckengost (1906-2008) created many of the popular shapes from the 1930s and 1940s. Salem China Company continued production until 1967. |
