Description |
The Homer Laughlin China Company (1871-Present) was founded by brothers Shakespeare and Homer Laughlin in East Liverpool, Ohio as one of the first whiteware plants in the country. Originally named Ohio Valley Pottery, then Laughlin Bros. Pottery, Homer Laughlin bought his brother's share of the company and renamed it after himself. Homer Laughlin sold his share in the company to William Edwin Wells in 1889, and soon after the company was officially named the Homer Laughlin China Company. Upon moving to Newell, West Virginia in 1907, the company began producing a robust selection of dinnerware and kitchenware. In 1927, Homer Laughlin China Company hired Frederick Hurten Rhead (1880-1942), who designed celebrated lines such as Fiesta Ware and Harlequin. The Homer Laughlin China Company is still one of largest producers of China in the United States today. |
