Description |
The Flint Faience and Tile Company (1921-1933) was founded in 1921 in Flint, Michigan by Albert Champion of AC Spark Plug Company. Champion discovered while making spark plugs for General Motors that the kilns used were being damaged by repeated heating and cooling cycles. Needing a way to keep the kilns hot, Champion fired decorative tiles during the company's off hours. The Flint Faience and Tile Company grew from there, providing creative decorative tiling, including animals, shapes, and faces, for residential and commercial properties. One of the designers hired by the company was Julio Haro (1898-1971), who eventually became chief designer for Flint Faience and Tile Company. The company remained in production until 1933. |
