Description |
This abstract sculpture was welded by Jack Carlton in 1966 and was typical of his highly expressive sculptural works dating from the late 1960s. This piece seamlessly joins two of the Ohio-based artist's favorite themes-the date, March 4th, and horses. A play on words, the title March fourth was intended to be understood as "march forth," while the sculpture conveyed the extraordinary power, energy, and movement of a horse and rider galloping forward. |
