Description |
An example of Rookwood Pottery Company (1880-1967) Limoges, sometimes called Cincinnati Limoges after its French counterpart, this decorative glaze treatment was first introduced in 1880 and discontinued in 1885. This basket vase features slip-painted spiders, cobwebs, and birds hand decorated by Albert Humphreys (1864-1926), covered in a clear, high-gloss glaze, and overglaze gilt decoration. Limoges is Rookwood's earliest example of underglaze slip decoration and was strongly influenced by Japanese imagery and design. |
