An example from Weller Pottery Company's Glazed and Decorated line introduced in 1895, this impressive, vibrant-red Greek Revival style jardinière, referred to as vase number 81 in the company's sales catalog, features a highly organized and decorative surface. Horizontal bands of egg, dart, and bead motifs outline a tableau that includes Eros and Aphrodite riding the waves. This piece could be ordered as a stand-alone "vase" or with a matching tabourette, or stool. |
