Description |
Created by Weller Pottery Company and introduced in 1896, the Louwelsa line name is derived from the combination of the first three letters of company founder Sam Weller's daughter's name Louise, the first three letters of their surname Weller, and Samuel A. Weller's initials SA. This small vase bears all the Louwelsa characteristics and features a dark shaded background sprayed on using an atomizer and delicate berries hand painted by decorator Elizabeth Ayers (1862-1947). Ayers was the sister of Edward M. Ayers, the co-founder of the Zanesville Museum of Art. This vase was donated to the museum by Elizabeth Ayers' daughter Margaret Ayers Gorsuch. |
